One person involved in a robbery at a villa belonging to a businessman in Mairena del Aljarafe (Seville) has died this morning in a shoot-out with the Civil Guard.

One of the assailants, who were wearing Civil Guard vests, threatened an officer with a gun. He in turn shot and killed the robber. Three others have been arrested. Civil Guard sources have revealed that the incident took place at around 9:50, when they were alerted to the presence of persons acting suspiciously at a house located at kilometre 3 on the road between Almensilla and Mairena del Aljarafe.

The alarm was first raised by a resident of the Las Tinajas housing development, located on regional road A-8055, who reported having seen several individuals scaling the perimeter wall of the home of a well-known Seville businessman. The Mairena del Aljarafe Local Police attending the scene called for back-up from the Civil Guard. On entering the property, officers discovered three men wearing vests and purporting to be members of the Judicial Police.

The criminals brandished their weapons, pointing them at the officers. When they ignored an order surrender, a shoot-out ensued, followed by arrests. The three individuals went as far as attempting to deceive the Civil Guard officers by claiming to also be Law Enforcement officers. There was subsequent third arrest, as part of investigations.  The Civil Guard has not ruled out the possibility of further accomplices, and is seeking to ascertain whether there are others at large.
