A Spanish clergyman and a Japanese samurai are the protagonists of this documentary which recounts one of the great epics of the 17th century. The Japanese travelled up the Guadalquivir river to Seville having overcome the dreaded Pacific Ocean, crossed Mexico on mules and crossed the Atlantic in the Fleet of the Indies.

The Japanese did not manage to persuade Philip III to establish trade relations, but many of those who came stayed here, giving rise to the curious origin of the surname Japón. On his visit to Seville to mark Expo 92, Prince Naruhito wanted to acknowledge this fact. "The Voyage of the Samurai", with the involvement of Televisión Española, was a 50-minute account of that landmark in history.
