Alberto Díaz caught between the Spanish national basketball team and the Euroleague

Unicaja de Málaga is very much affected by the controversy that has arisen in the world of basketball regarding the dates of the Euroleague and of the Spanish basketball team games. Besides the three international Serbian players, Sergio Scariolo has summoned Alberto Díaz, who will not be playing alongside the national team.

Alberto Díaz has received the call from the Spanish national basketball team. Under normal conditions, this would have been excellent news, however now this has turned into somewhat of a problem. It seems that all international players, from all the teams, are caught in the crossfire between the two major institutions of European basketball: FIBA and the Euroleague.

Spain will be playing two qualifying matches for the FIBA Basketball World Cup in China on the 24th and 26th of November, however Euroleague games are also set to take place on those days. Unicaja will be playing against CSKA on the 24th.

Although the Sports Law obligates players to play for the national team, the Unicaja player has opted for a consensual solution.

Scariolo must submit the final list of players next week. Spain¿s participation in the World Cup is at stake, as well as the team¿s classification for the next Olympic Games.
