The Granada International Festival of Music and Dance opens under Zubin Metha¿s baton
The 66th edition of the Granada International Festival of Music and Dance starts tonight in the Palace of Charles V. The Orchestra and Choir from Teatro di San Carlo in Naples will perform Symphony No. 9 from Ludwig van Beethoven, directed by Zubin Mehta.
The conductor, Zubin Mehta, opens the 66th edition of the Granada International Festival of Music and Dance in the symbolic Palace of Charles V, located inside the Alhambra, alongside the Orchestra and Choir from Teatro di San Carlo and with whom he¿ll play one of the basic pillars of European symphony, Beethoven¿s No. 9. The Indian artist, who will perform for a fourth time in the prestigious theatre in Granada following his appearances in 1964, 1968 and 2011, compared this piece from the German composer to great creations like the "Mona Lisa" by Leonardo da Vinci or the "Pietà" by Michelangelo.
This edition features renowned conductors, great works of repertoire and even rock and roll, and featured among the great conductors are Zubin Mehta, William Christie, Víctor Pablo Pérez, Simon Rattle, Josep Pons, Pablo González, David Afkham and Pablo Heras-Casado.
Five dance performances for all tastes come to the Generalife Theatre, with two premiers in Spain and tributes to Roland Petit, Maurice Bejart and Antonio, the dancer, as well as flamenco, fusion, chamber, matinées and other recitals.
