Allergy to pollen from the olive tree Levels continue to fall in the province of Jaén.

Levels of olive tree pollen, which cause allergic reactions in more than twenty percent of the population, continue to fall in the province of Jaén... This year, flowering happened earlier than normal, meaning peak concentrations took place last week... With sixty million olive trees in Jaén, the region has the highest concentration of pollen of any plant species in the country.

The levels are still very high, but a little more bearable. The latest measurement found 3,400 particles per cubic metre, one fifth of the almost 17,000 that were counted on the fourth of this month. This constitutes the second highest level ever recorded. This year has been hard for those who suffer from allergies... itching and watering of the eyes, sneezing and breathing difficulties.

The measurements carried out by the hospital complex of Jaén serve to help those with allergies to programme their daily activities, avoiding going outside on days with the highest concentrations.

Allergists recommend vaccines and preventive treatments as well as daily habits, such as not going out into the country, travelling with the windows up, wearing sunglasses and dusting the bedroom before going to sleep.
