Unemployment figures increased in the Canary Islands during the month of September (716 people) and it was the second community where figures increased the least. For businessmen, the statistic although negative, is a response to the more than 1800 people who registered in job centres, encouraged by the hope that the economy was recovering. It also places value on the increase of more than 9800 new members in social security. This reading differs from that made by the trade unions who criticise that employment is barely created when the PIB increases above 3%. Unemployment in the islands equates to around 231 thousand people.
