Santa Cruz de Tenerife becomes the world capital of cruises
For three days, the capital of Tenerife will play host to the most important fair of the sector in Europe. An opportunity to agree new routes and to become familiar with the market trends that grow by 10% each year.
The Seatrade Cruisde Med, the biggest congress on cruises in Europe, will stop off in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. A display in which 50 senior managers from the industry, port authorities, shipping companies from 73 countries and 2,500 professionals from the sector will take part. A sector that already represents 10% of the total tourism in Spain and that brought more than two million tourists to the Canary Islands last year.
The islands are the second cruise destination in Spain, only surpassed by Catalonia. Congresses of this type are organised with a view to prolonging growth and consolidating the position during the next winter season. Temperatures in the archipelago are the main tourism appeal, according to the director of the port authority of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
