Stephen Hawking: "Science and music have helped me to survive"

The teacher Stephen Hawking has announced in Tenerife the names of the three winners of the medal bearing his name. It is a science communication prize that has been awarded to Jim Al-Khalili, a nuclear physicist dedicated to popularisation; the documentary "Particle Fever", about the discovery of Higgs boson and the composer Hans Zimmer, who wrote the soundtrack of the film "Interstellar".

The prizes are chosen by Hawking himself, who has stated that music and science have helped him to survive.

The prize-winners will receive the medal on 29 June during the Starmus festival, which will bring together twelve Nobel prizes in Tenerife.
