RTVE successfully presents El Ministerio del Tiempo and Acacias 38 at MIPTV Cannes
Broadcasters and producers from around the world showed great interest in the series ‘El Ministerio del Tiempo,’ in both its original Spanish version (broadcast exactly as seen in Spain) and its potential adaptation in other countries. Format negotiations have already begun in collaboration with Onza Entertainment with the US, Latin America, France and Russia, countries which see the potential of adapting the series to their historic facts and customs.
The other promising prospect at this year’s MIP is the series ‘Acacias 38, ’ a production intended to be aired in the afternoon slot, in which several broadcasters have shown an acute interest.
Moreover, although not officially presented at the event, ‘Seis hermanas’ made a big impression and two major Italian channels are interested in the series. The three seasons of ‘Isabel’ and ‘Víctor Ros’ continue to attract attention at the market.
RTVE reached new agreements to distribute the channels ‘TVE Internacional’ and ‘24 horas’ through the Pay-Tv platforms of several African nations, including Guinea, the Central African Republic, Gabon and Congo, as well as the United Kingdom, Israel and the Netherlands. Discussions have also begun with new operators in Australia, Qatar and Canada, as well as with smart TV manufacturers interested in adding TVE channels to their range of offers.
Initial steps have also been taken to distribute the MIS (Made in Spain) channel in many African and European countries (Switzerland, Portugal, Germany, Belgium and the UK). This channel, which was created under an agreement signed by RTVE and Videomercury, specialises in broadcasting fictional content (series and films). Launched on 9 January 2015, the channel is currently distributed in France by Orange, Free and SFR.
Also at MIPTV, RTVE’s Director of Technology, Innovation, and Systems, Pere Vila, participated in a session on the new 4K ultra HD format sponsored by SONY entitled ‘The Factual Broadcasters: Ready for 4K broadcasting’, in which Vila provided a broad overview of RTVE’s work to date, discussed some of the new projects underway, and detailed the efforts being made by the Corporation regarding this new technology. RTVE presented a video featuring clips of the footage shot so far: ‘Barcelona,’ ‘Campanadas en Madrid,’ ’El Greco, alma y luz universales’ and “La pasión del Prado,” which was very well received by participants.
