Riots in Burgos

We discuss the situation in the central northern Spanish city of Burgos, where protests and riots have been taking place since January 10th, the date when thousands of residents of a working class neighborhood took to the street in demonstrations against a public works project for the construction of underground parking lots and a new street layout. With high unemployment, deep cuts in spending on social programs, and involvement in the project by businessmen previously convicted of fraud, the protesters say they have had enough. Garbage bins have been burnt and bank windows broken by hooded youths, and the unrest has received attention by international news media (15/01/14).
