Justin Coe talks to Raquel Martí, the executive director of UNRWA Spain, the Spanish affiliate of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East. UNRWA was created in 1949 and has, since then, been the largest single source of aid for Palestinian refugees. Nearly one-third of registered Palestine refugees--more than 1.5 million people--live in 58 recognized Palestine refugee camps in Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem. According to UNRWA's website, the U.N. agency provides assitance and protection for a total of some five million Palestinian refugees.
