One of Europe's leading early music ensembles of today is Café Zimmermann, whose name and inspiration come from the Kaffeehaus established in Leipzig in the early 18th century by Gottfried Zimmermann. There, among other musical activities, Johann Sebastian Bach conducted many of the first performances of his secular works, including (naturally) his "Kaffee-Kantate" (Coffee Cantata). Café Zimmermann, formed two decades ago in France, have just been in Spain where they gave performances of Bach's "Brandenburg Concertos" in Seville, Madrid, and Barcelona. After a brief look at some current events in Spain, today's program features a recording by Café Zimmermann of the Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 in G Major, BWV 1048.
