11.11.2008Spanish soldiers carry the coffins of Ruben Alonso Ríos and Andres Suarez Garcia at the military airport of Lavacolla in Santiago de Compostela November 11, 2008. Two Spanish soldiers were killed and four wounded in a suicide attack on Sunday south of the city of Herat in western Afghanistan, a Spanish military spokesman said. Spanish Defence Minister Carme Chacon said a van loaded with explosives rammed into the last of the 18 vehicles of a joint Spanish and Afghan convoy returning from a training exercise in the Shindand province. The attack brings to 25 the number of Spanish troops killed in the fight against Taliban insurgents, while the total number of foreign military deaths in Afghanistan since the Taliban government was toppled in late 2001 is more than 1,000. Spain has more than 700 military personnel based in Afghanistan, most of them in Herat province.REUTERS/Miguel Vidal
