Recently named Chief Conductor of the Malaysia Philharmonic in Kuala Lumpur, internationally acclaimed conductor Fabio Mechetti also serves as Music Director and Principal Conductor of the Minas Gerais Philharmonic in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. Previous directorships include the Jacksonville, Spokane and Syracuse symphonies.

In addition to his Carnegie Hall orchestral debut with the New Jersey Symphony, Fabio Mechetti has appeared as guest conductor with orchestras throughout the United States, including the Pacific Symphony and the orchestras of Seattle, Utah, Rochester, San Antonio, San Jose, Austin, Phoenix, Charlotte, Omaha and the Long Island Philharmonic. He is also a frequent guest conductor in Mexico, Brazil, Venezuela and Puerto Rico. Recent worldwide engagements include the Rome Symphony, BBC Scottish Symphony/Glasgow and the Tampere Philharmonic in Finland. In addition to the Auckland Philharmonia in New Zealand, he has also led orchestras throughout Scandinavia and Japan.

Leading the Minas Gerais Philharmonic, Mr. Mechetti has recently been involved in recording projects for the Naxos label featuring works by Hector Villa-Lobos. The first CD is scheduled to be released later this year. Also in 2014, the orchestra made a very successful tour of Argentina, Chile and Uruguay. An experienced opera conductor, Fabio Mechetti made his American debut with the Washington (D.C.) Opera, served as music director of the Rio de Janeiro Opera, and directed productions in Syracuse, Spokane and Brazil. He also led thirteen fully-staged operas during his tenure with the Jacksonville Symphony.

Winner of the 1989 Malko International Conducting Competition in Denmark, Mr. Mechetti has been associate conductor of the National Symphony Orchestra/Washington, D.C. and resident conductor of the San Diego Symphony. Fabio Mechetti holds master’s degrees in both conducting and composition from The Juilliard School. He currently resides in Jacksonville, Florida with his wife, pianist Aida Ribeira, and their twin daughters.
