El álbum poseía una gran carga emocional por sus baladas. POINT BLANK, INDEPENDENCE DAY, THE RIVER, STOLEN CAR… eran historias cantadas. STOLEN CAR significó un precedente de muchas canciones que escribiría posteriormente. Estaba inmersa psicológicamente en personajes que aparecerían en TUNNEL OF LOVE; un personaje masculino arquetípico en canciones posteriores sobre hombres y mujeres. Bruce Springsteen.
