We continue our conversation with NYU Professor James Fernández about the book Invisible Immigrants: Spaniards in the US 1868 to 1945, comprised of photographs and memorabilia saved by the descendants of Spanish immigrants.  The book tells the story of how Spaniards went to the United States seeking a better life and dreaming of one day returning to Spain, only to find their country transformed by the Civil War and its aftermath.  Unable to return, they gradually lost contact with their roots in Spain and assimilated into American society. You can find out more about this remarkable project of historical memory at their website: www.tracesofspainintheus.org
