Exiled Iraqui poet Salah Niazi has long held Spain in his heart, as a student and as a frequent visitor over more than thirty years. His work, acclaimed in the Arab world, has been translated extensively in French, English and Spanish. In addition to his own poetry, he has translated Shakespeare's MacBeth and Hamlet, and James Joyce's Ulysses. He spoke with Alison Hughes about poetry, exile (he has lived in London since 1963), language and civilization. His works translated into English include Dizza Castle, Selected Poems, edited by David Andrew.
