North By Southwest

In this week's edition of "North By Southwest", we take a look at the jazz scene in Spain with Cityzen Music, and talk to UK jazz/electronica band Portico Quartet who perform live for us in the studios of Radio Nacional de España. Portico Quartet, as their name suggests, are four musicians from the East End of London whose work has already earned them a nomination for the prestigious Mercury Prize. Drawing on electronica, ambient, classical and dance music, the band take their inspiration from Burial, Mount Kimbie and Flying Lotus with textures of Arve Henriksen and Bon Iver and echoes of Steve Reich and Max Richter. Now promoting their eponymous third album, they recently visited Spain to perform in Madrid and Barcelona (27/02/12).
