Panorama: Syria Update

Today's program focuses on recent developments in the war in Syria, including the statement by the US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson outlining policy and explaining why the country plans to maintain forces in Syria into the indefinite future.  The arming and backing of the Syrian Kurdish militia, the YPG, by the US and its announced expansión prompted Turkey to launch an air and ground attack.  Turkey, a NATO partner, considers the Syrian Kurds allies of the banned PKK Kurdish group in Turkey and therefore "terrorists".   Meanwhile, a Russian jet was shot down in Idlib province by jihadist rebels using a Manpad, shoulder-carried anti-aircraft missile launcher
