This week's guest is British historian Dr. Justin Byrne, a specialist in Spanish history--one of a long line of so-called Anglo-Saxon hispanists, who have done so much to promote the study of the history of Spain. Doctor Byrne has lived for the past 25 years in Madrid where he has worked and researched at various Spanish and American Universities with campuses in the Spanish capital. Currently he is Visiting Scholar at the Centre for Advanced Studies in Social Sciences at the Juan March Institute. Frank Smith talks to Dr. Byrne about why foreign scholars have led the field in the study of Spanish history, and the problems of Spanish society in accepting the country's recent history (13/04/12).
