On the one hundredth anniversary of her birth, we are celebrating the life and career of one of Spain's greatest artists, the bailaora or flamenco dancer, Carmen Amaya. Considered a revolutionary of flamenco dance and an exponent of its most genuine and radical spirit, Amaya astounded audiences with the intensity of her artistic expression, from her electrifying footwork to her searing gaze. Performing on the streets of Barcelona from the age of five, Carmen Amaya rose to international fame in the 1940's and 50's, inspiring the admiration of audiences and other artists worldwide. Barcelona is commemorating the occasion of the centenary of her birth with some 200 activities and events. Cataluña seeks to recover the memory of one of its greatest artists (31/05/13)
