In this week's edition of "North By Southwest" Nicolas Jackson returns to the ancient town of Segovia some 90km northwest of Madrid and famous, amongst other things, for its Roman Aquaduct and its annual literary event, the Hay Festival. There he talks to British author Andrew Miller about creative writing and historical fiction. Andrew Miller's first novel, Ingenious Pain, won the James Tait Black Memorial Prize in 1997 and is currently being adapted for cinema. Subsequently, his work Oxygen was shortlisted for the Whitbread Novel Award and the Booker Prize, whilst his latest novel, Pure, was the winner of the Costa Prize. Many of Andrew Miller's books are set in the past, whether that's the pre-revolutionary Paris of Pure, the 18th Century England of Ingenious Pain or the Japan prior to the Second World War of One Morning Like a Bird (17/12/12).
