English Language Broadcast   Bloomsday at Desperate Literature 30/06/2015 30:08

Madrid's multilingual used and new books store Desperate Literature celebrated Bloomsday, the commemoration of the events depicted in James Joyce's novel Ulysses with readings, Irish whisky and cake, illustrations and song. Desperate Literature is currently being run by Charlotte and Terry, who before this had been working at Shakespeare and Company in Paris.  As it happens, the owner of the original Shakespeare & Co. was the first to publish Joyce's novel when it was banned by the American and British authorities.  Visiting from Barcelona, Irish singer and songwriter Davy Lyons sang between readings.
