The story of Spanish immigration to the United States, one scarcely told outside of family circles, is finally being chronicled, thanks to a new book and web-based archive project by NYU Professor James Fernández and Spanish journalist Luis Argeo. The book "Invisible Immigrants: Spaniards in the United States 1868 to 1945" consists of hundreds of photographs documenting the experience of the thousands of Spaniards who left their country to find work in the US. In today's program, the first of several dedicated to the history of Spaniards in the US, Professor James Fernández explains some of the factors responsible for this "invisibility."
