Fugitiva (Fugitive), Traición (Betrayal) and Playz, RTVE s major new developments for MIPTV 2018

The audiovisual content market will be held from 9 to 12 April in Cannes.

Fugitiva and Traición are RTVEs major new dramas for this year in MIPTV,  which will be held in Cannes from 9 to 12 April. RTVE will also present their new digital content website, Playz, which has already clocked up more than 10 million views since its launch in October.

The thriller Fugitiva stars Paz Vega as Magda, a woman who sees her world shatter around her at a pivotal moment in her life, forcing her to make a drastic decision in order to save herself and her three children. The action takes place across Mexico and Spain, following the events of 90 hours in the life of a family caught up in a desperate situation. Its international cast also includes Julio Bracho, the star of several Mexican hit TV series, and Roberto Alamo, who won the Goya award for best actor in 2017.

A popular series with Spanish viewers, Traición , starring Ana Belén, depicts the complex relationships within a family whose law firm is tightly controlled by their father s iron grip. The family s outward harmony begins to crumble when the father gathers the family around him to inform them that he is suffering from a terminal illness and is about to die.

RTVE will also be presenting Estoy Vivo (Im Alive), a thriller which intertwines crime and fantasy. A shocking opening sees police inspector Andrés Vargas accidentally die while chasing a serial killer who has murdered five women. But this is not the end for Vargas, who will have the chance to come back to life, five years later, in the body of another police officer, played by award-winning actor Javier Gutiérrez. The series, full of unexpected twists and turns, has been a big hit in Spain, where it topped the prime-time ratings with more than 2.5 million viewers, and production on its second season has already been given the go-ahead.

Another show to be presented in Cannes is Servir y Proteger (To Serve and Protect), a daily series depicting everyday life in a police station in a southern Madrid neighbourhood, focusing on the human side of the people who work in the security forces. The plots revolve around its female leads, two policewomen, their workmates and the cases that they have to solve.

RTVE will also bring other productions from its wide range of drama, including Víctor Ros and El Caso: Crónica de Sucesos , its internationally acclaimed daily series Acacias 38 and Seis Hermanas , and large-scale productions such as Isabel and Carlos, Rey Emperador.

RTVE extends its range with Playz

Another new RTVE development for this MIPTV is Playz, an open-access digital content platform specifically targeted at the young people of Generation Z. It was launched on 30 October and has clocked up more than 10 million views across its content.

Part of this content - a package of web series designed for internet viewing by a very young audience, including Si Fueras tú , Mambo , Inhibidos , Dorien and Colegas - will be presented in Cannes.

With Playz, RTVE s content provision has been expanded to meet the needs of young people - a highly specific segment which is distancing itself from traditional forms of consuming audiovisual content and turning to other devices that allow them greater freedom to access content in the place and at the time they choose.

RTVE s catalogue of international channels already includes a general entertainment and information channel (TVE Internacional), a news channel in Spanish (24 Horas), a channel devoted to the best Spanish drama (STAR HD), and a channel for very young children (Clan), and these will now be joined by this new platform for young people.

RTVE s sales team in Cannes will be headed by Rodolfo Domínguez, Sales Director, and María Jesús Pérez, Head of the International Sales Department.
