Joaquín renews with Betis until 2020
The green-and-white winger, who began at Betis when he was aged 16, is set to retire in 2020 at the age of 38. After a great season with his team, is a major figure both on and off the pitch, and an icon of Spanish football.

After the video, in which Joaquín himself announced in his usual manner his renewal until 2020, today the agreement with Betis was made official in a moving ceremony. Joaquín will remain at the Heliópolis club for a further two-and-a-half years, until he turns 38. He joined when he was 16 years old, becoming one of the highest profile football players in the past 20 years, both in Seville and in Spain as a whole.
He left for Valencia in 2006, and then played at Málaga and at Fiorentina, before returning to the Benito Villamarín stadium in 2015. He has played 335 official matches with Betis to date, and is close beating the record as the player who has donned the green-and-white shirt the most. The 336th match will be the derby.
