Lorca's legacy inches ever closer

The consortium of The Federico García Lorca Centre and the foundation that represents the poet's family have come to an agreement for his legacy to reach Granada before 30 June. It has taken years of negotiations, all the while the Lorca Centre has been missing its centrepiece.

El legado de Lorca, cada vez más cerca

Over five thousand of Federico García Lorca¿s documents, writings, drawings and letters shape the legacy of the poet and playwright from Fuentevaqueros, which can currently be found at the Student Residence (Residencia de Estudiantes) in Madrid. In six months the collection will be located in Granada, at the Lorca Centre, an avant-garde building that was built specifically to house the much-beloved treasure.

It is in fact the greatest legacy of a Spanish writer, comparable to that of Juan Ramón Jiménez, located in Puerto Rico. When the legacy reaches Granada, it will be available to researchers and will be a new focal point of tourist attraction for the city of Granada, and yet another argument in their favour for being declared European Capital of Culture in the year 2031.
