Málaga has once again been eliminated by a second-tier team for a third consecutive season. The blue-and-whites could only muster a draw against Numancia, who in turn qualified for the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey.

Adrián González put Málaga ahead in the 19th minute of the match. Málaga had a handful of goal-scoring chances, however Elguezábal¿s header established the definitive 1-1 tie that sent the Sorian club through to the next qualifying round.
