A WOMAD city
The first WOMAD Festival was held in 1993 in the capital of Gran Canaria. It was celebrated on the Playa de Las Canteras. To this date, all those who attended still remember those November days.

WOMAD, the world music festival promoted by Peter Gabriel, was first celebrated in Las Canteras in November 1993. Joint efforts made the impossible possible. Right from the start the capital of Gran Canaria, an open and cosmopolitan city, became a WOMAD city. A multicultural city, where xenophobia does not exist.
