In areas like the district of Almanjáyar, to the north of Granada, people cultivate marijuana in their terraces, garages and cellars. The drug traffickers even pirate the electricity they need for their plantations, causing numerous power supply shortages.

So far this year, the Civil Guard has seized 75 thousand marijuana plants in the province of Granada¿ That¿s 15,000 more than in the same time frame last year. The drug prosecution unit is on alert due to the rise in marijuana cultivation. It is suspected that if the rise in marijuana cultivation continues at the current rate then it would be enough to meet the demands of domestic use with no need to import hashish from Morocco.
