Perimeter of fire in Gran Canaria stabilised
Around 104 troops, made up of Gran Canaria Island Council staff, the Canarian Government forest fire intervention forces EIRIF, based in La Palma, La Gomera and El Hierro, and members of UME (military emergencies unit) , were deployed to continue with extinguishing the fire which has been burning at the summit of the island since Wednesday.

The fire has been stabilised and kept within the affected perimeter. It has been calculated that 2,700 hectares of land, mainly Canarian pine forests and scrubland.
Moreover, a woman has died as a result of the flames for not leaving her home in time. It was understood that she was trying to save her animals from the blaze.
