Exhibition by Pep Guerrero at Santa Catalina Castle, Cadiz

Turning everyday objects into art only depends on the imagination and talent of the artist. This is the theme behind the Harpep's Bazar exhibition by Majorcan artist Pep Guerrero, open to the public in Cadiz until 19 November.

Miguel Albandoz

Pep Guerrero has turned a hall in Santa Catalina Castle, Cadiz, into a fascinating warehouse of recycled objects.

In this globalised world dominated by major brands and mercantilism, Guerrero takes his revenge by turning everyday objects into art. Pep's colourful, dazzling pop style spreads like a benign artistic epidemic to the most unexpected objects. From a pair of shoes to a television, children's games to a giant chess board, any object can become a work of art.

Guerrero annihilates the always vague limits between great art and popular culture, between artwork and product. He combines the timeless classics with the most fleeting trends. He visually plays with good and bad taste. And he even gives a twist to his own outlook by painting a plain, common table and hanging it on the wall as if it were a canvas.
