The derby was a friendly game
Club Deportivo Tenerife drew 2-2 with Unión Deportiva Las Palmas in the first leg game of the Copa Mahou.
This year the derby was a friendly one. Sportsmanship in a match that, by contract, was still mainly a preparatory game.
Las Palmas took the lead on two occasions, first with a goal scored by Momo, and afterwards with another scored by Vitolo. However, Tenerife, with Juan Villar, was able to draw both times, with the second time being from a penalty kick.
A rehearsal match from which Manolo Márquez drew the conclusion that Las Palmas does a lot things well, but they need to improve on their defence. The manager has a clear idea of what areas to begin improving. He says they did quite well in the attack, although sometimes they did not see the final pass, which if they had it would have been great, but when the ball got taken away from them, things became very difficult: a typical problem for Las Palmas, according to the coach.
In Tenerife, Juan Villar and Cadesús¿s upward mobility caught everyone¿s attention. Martí values the fact that his team rises to the challenge and competes in every play. Tenerife, which started preseason training ten days later than the yellow team, compensated for the lack of practice with pride, said the manager.
The first part of the Copa Mahou ended in a draw. The next game will be on Tuesday in Maspalomas.
