Tenerife moves ahead fearlessly to the final goal

Tenerife will face Getafe in the final qualifying round for promotion to the First Division, after beating Cádiz in extra time in a nerve-racking first play-off.

Tenerife-Cádiz - 2º Play Off

A heart-stopping match. A goal by Gaku in the 34th minute put Tenerife through. With the result of the fist leg in the Ramón de Carranza Stadium, and with the best position in the regular league, Martí's team just needed to win 1 - 0 at the end of extra time to get through the qualifying round, but Cádiz was a seriously threat.

"When you suffer like this, you always enjoy it more," according to Martí. For the trainer classification is the result of effort, work, team spirit - and also luck. Now the trainer is calling on the fans to hang a scarf or flag in their windows, so the team will believe in itself even more.

Next Wednesday at 8 pm, Canary Islands time, in the Heliodoro Stadium, they will play the first leg of the final qualifying round for promotion to the First Division. The return match will be on Saturday in Getafe.

According to Dani Hernández the team started the league with a 4% chance of promotion, and now stands at around 50%. The goalie remembers that Tenerife has moved up playing away and in an odd-numbered year, which happens to be the case this season.

Tenerife is coming to Wednesday's match after playing extra time, and having rested a day less than Getafe. Martí emphasises that the rival team has an added advantage, because before the play-offs Tenerife needed one more goal to make the First Division, and Getafe didn't.
