A hyperrealistic sculpture of Picasso surprises people in Málaga

The sculpture, by Eugenio Merino, is on display from this Thursday onwards at the headquarters of the French Alliance of Málaga, as part of an programme that aims to criticise mass tourism.

The work completes an itinerary that starts at the House Museum, continues in the School of Picasso, moves onto the museum housing his work and finishes off with the scene of his death, with his resting body receiving visits from neighbours and tourists.

The project, which offers visitors the unique opportunity to take a selfie with Picasso, fills a biographical void in the life of the artist with the staging of what tourists want to see, a close-up glimpse into his death.

The piece, entitled "Ici repose Picasso" is a criticism of mass tourism and invites visitors to reflect on the urbanistic model and to decide between a commercialised city designed for leisure and tourism and an inhabitable city.
