Nasrid engineers built a system to take water from the River Darro up the hill to the Alhambra. Its river bed separates the hill where the Alhambra stands and the Albaicín district.

The intention is to recover the landscape by creating a new recreation area at the foot of the Alhambra towers. Archaeological work had started and the remaining work will be tendered at a later date. The goal is to start the project next autumn.
