Spring more bearable for those who suffer allergies in Extremadura
Spring has arrived less loaded with pollen due to the shortage of rain in winter and autumn, although in Extremadura the level will continue to be high. In the province of Cáceres, it will surpass 13.000 grains per cubic metre and, in Badajoz, under 11.500 but above 6.000, the limit at which spring is considered to be intense for allergies.

Allergy consultations begin peak season, although it will not be until mid April when the highest levels in grass pollen production are reached. In Extremadura, about 300.000 people suffer some type of allergic pathology and the symptoms, in most cases, are itching, tearing, sneezing and headaches.
To prevent experiencing symptoms, specialists recommend avoiding contact with allergens that are in the atmosphere and using standardised masks and glasses. But to relieve symptoms, bronchodilators, corticoides or antihistamines have to be taken, and in some cases, it is necessary to be vaccinated because, experts say, it's the only treatment that alters the evolution of the illness.
