Miguel Periáñez, World Master's Racewalking champion
The 55-year-old athlete from Calamonte won gold in the three kilometre event at the World Master's Athletics Championship in Korea and will dispute the 10 km event on Friday.

Miguel Periáñez brilliantly completed the 3 kilometres with a time of 13:43:75, half a minute before that the Italian, Walter Arena, and 36 seconds ahead of the Frenchman, Francis Gauze. This Friday, he competes in the 10 kilometre event of the World Championships that are taking place in the Korean city of Daegu.
The racer from Calamonte, Badajoz, Miguel Periáñez, had to abandon his career in sports at the age of 24 but took it back up just before turning 50, and has since won world, European and national titles and has set records in his discipline, racewalking.
