UPA-UCE calls for a protest in defence of the tomato
The land organisation denounced some days ago the proposal of the industry to lower the price of the ton in this season again, up to 70 euros against the 78 euros of 2015. On 1 of March this negotiation must be closed, but in the face of the Industry's refusal to improve conditions, UPA-UCE calls for a demonstration on Wednesday, 22 of February, against Conesa, the main tomato plant industry of the region.

UPA-UCE is putting this industry in the spotlight because it assures more pressure is put on the farmers for them to hire under "abusive" conditions, and assures that they can bring, it states, the sector to ruin because they want to pay less than the production costs.
They will request a meeting with the president of the Board of Extremadura, because Conesa receives autonomous subsidies, and they will ask the Ministry of Agriculture to advance the deadline for signing the contracts, so that farmers can change crops if it is not profitable enough for them.
