Half a year since Manuela Chavero's disappearance
It's been six months since the resident of Monesterio (Badajoz) disappeared, but her family members and neighbours have not lost hope. In that time, they've taken action and organised searches complementary to the ongoing police and judicial investigations in order to look for clues as to her whereabouts so that her case isn't forgotten.
Manuela Chavero disappeared early last 5 July with the last traces of her in her house, where the television and lights had been left on. Since then, posters with her photo have been put up in many places. From the very beginning, Monesterio has done everything in its power to help her family by organising rallies and participating in the search through the surrounding areas of the village, through fields, streams and marshes, each time widening the perimeter, but without finding any clues to shed light on the case.
In October, nearly 400 people took part in a search party coordinated by the journalist Paco Lobatón's foundation, with an expert in missing persons. Then, it became known that a hair had been found, as well as an earring and a key; this evidence was ruled out by the judge on the case and the UCO (Unidad Central Operativa) agents who continue the investigation, focused, according to the government delegation, on various suspects and hypotheses.
