For the third time in the history of both clubs, Unión Deportiva Las Palmas and Atlético de Madrid, are up against each other in the first official match of the year and in the Copa del Rey. The trainer, Diego Simeone, despite the last minute leave of the Belgian player Carrasco, brought his team to the island to play in the first match of the quarter-finals of the cup.
