This coming 12 of March, elections in rural Extremadura

The Board of Extremadura has given the green light in the Government Council to call for elections in rural Extremadura. And it does so with opposition from the agrarian organisation, Asaja de Cáceres, which claims that requisites of the Land Law are not being met. On the other hand, the regional government calls for agro-environmental aid valued at more than 173 million euros.

Extremadura has not held such elections since 2002. With this call for elections from the regional government "a necessary step towards the democratic normalisation in the sector" is made, as is pointed out by the Advisor to Agricultural Policies, Begoña García Bernal. On the 12 of March elections will be held.

On the other hand, the Board has authorised three lines of financial support to the agro-industrial sector. One of which will provide more than 173 million euros in agro-environmental aid until 2020.
