Drained Guadiana River enables camalote to be extracted
The opening of floodgates in the Montijo dam for carrying out maintenance works reduces the flow of the river in its stretch through Mérida.

As is normal practice every winter, the Hydrographic Confederation of Guadiana has opened the floodgates of the Montijo dam, in Badajoz. Reducing the level of the reservoir enables conservation and maintenance works to be carried out.
The measure also reduces the flow of the Guadiana River. In this way, the reduced amount of water facilitates the manual extraction of camalote from the river.
