La Palma on orange alert due to rain
Up to 120 litres per square meter have fallen over the last four hours in certain places across the island and over 200 lightning bolts have been recorded. Weather models could not predict such intense rainfall, but the air mass has become trapped due to the orography, causing heavy rainfall and snow in areas of high altitude.
