They have beaten breast cancer

Detecting breast cancer early is fundamental for overcoming the illness, in fact, the mortality rate decreases to as little as 30% when the diagnosis is made on time. In the Canary Islands, 5,000 cases of breast cancer are detected every year. The Spanish Cancer Association, AECC, organises water therapy treatments for women who have beaten breast cancer.

The women have water therapy treatments every day, whether they have the strength to or not. It involves more than one hour of swimming pool rehabilitation to help them regain movement in their arms. The therapy is a way of preventing lymphoedema, the accumulation of lymphatic fluid in white tissue after the operation, which causes the arm to swell. It is both a physical and emotional therapy.
