At 3 pm, the alarm was sounded with the evacuation of La Restinga. It was not known if the subsequent eruption would reach dry land, which would have presented a challenge for the Canary Islands. There were continual tremors and the eruption gradually became visible. All sea life was wiped out. Along with the island's economic and tourist activities

Once the worst was over, it was thought that the situation could be turned to the island's advantage. It could become the focus of interest for science and tourism. But it didn't turn out that way.
