92 microseisms are registered in Tenerife

The Volcanological Institute of the Canary Islands considers that the earthquake swarm registered yesterday in the west of Tenerife yesterday has finished.

During a period of four hours, nearly one hundred low-intensity tremors, which were not strong enough for the population to notice, were registered.

According to the experts, this is a normal activity in areas with active volcanoes.

Today, no seismic activity has been registered in Tenerife. Yesterday, however, the earth experienced almost one hundred shocks during a period of four hours. A swarm of microseisms with very low energy levels were registered in Las Cañadas caldera. According to the experts, this sort of activity is relatively common in areas with active volcanoes and it has not affected the deformation of the ground. For four days two scientific teams will work in the northwest of the island to detect if changes have occurred in terms of gas emission rates. The Government has scheduled a PEVOLCA meeting for Wednesday where all this data will be assessed.
