"Kiko" wins the Ultra del Nordeste mountain race
Miguel Ángel García Gutiérrez, known as "Kiko", has won the first edition of the Ultra del Nordeste mountain race. The 58-year-old runner, with an accumulated time of 14 hours, 45 minutes and 18 seconds, took the lead in the 94-kilometre mountain race, overtaking Iván Galván and Javier Padrón, who came second and third respectively.
In another trial mode -the relay route-, Bikila Canarias took the lead out of the 26 participating teams.
The predictions for the trail proved true and Miguel Heras reached the finish point 20 minutes before the classified second.
In the women's category, the differences were even more evident. Helena Rodríguez won the trial with more than a 35-minute advantage.
The Ultra del Nordeste mountain race, which runs through the Anaga Rural Park, is here to stay.
