Georges Méliès was a magician before becoming a film director and producer. His knowledge of shows and his great command of optical and mechanical special effects allowed him to apply illusionist and magic lantern techniques to the seventh art. A selection of his work will be on exhibition until 15 October in the CajaCanarias Cultural Space in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
The sample entitled 'Georges Méliès. The magic of cinema' features 142 pieces and includes 14 original films from the French filmmaker, some of which have been restored and digitalised by La Cinémathéque Française especially for this tour through Spain.
This is the last chance that we will have to enjoy the legacy of the father of the special effects, in a Spanish art room.
