200 sports enthusiasts suffer sudden deaths in Spain

The latest, a 49 year-old man who was taking part in a mountain race in La Laguna

Muerte en carreras

Events in which sports enthusiasts take part are becoming more and more demanding and competitive but very few of them require a medical certificate for signing up. Doctors prescribe prudence and prevention. A simple stress test could reduce the risks of sudden death. It costs between 70 and 150 euros, substantially less than what is invested in sport equipment. Most sudden deaths related with sports are caused by cardiovascular factors. The latest death was that of a 49 year-old man who was taking part in a mountain race in La Laguna last weekend.
